The second meeting of the Parliamentary Ukraine-EU Association Committee started with an opening word of Verkhovna Rada Chairperson Volodymyr Groysman.
"In the environment of the young democracy the Ukrainian parliament proves its ability to adopt statist decisions," said Groysman.
He emphasized that Ukraine is a reliable partner of the European Union and the process of reforms in Ukraine continues to comply with European standards.
In their speeches co-chairpersons of the Committee Ostap Semerak and Andrii Plenkovich stressed that the historical simultaneous ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the European Parliament on September 16, 2014, clearly showed the European initiative for Ukraine, as well as the desire and commitments of both Parties to develop strong inter-parliamentary relations.
"The Parliamentary Ukraine-EU Association Committee, at its first meeting in Brussels on February 24-25, 2015, reaffirmed common intentions to facilitate Ukraine's quick and full realization of comprehensive reforms oriented to the European Union," said one of speakers at the meeting.
The meeting participants adopted the agenda, rules of the meeting and endorsed the protocol of the first meeting of the Parliamentary Ukraine-EU Association Committee of February 24-25, 2015.
Pat Cox, former President of the European Parliament, took part in the meeting. In his speech about the mission of the European Parliament for assessment of needs of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the head of the mission informed the participants that Verkhovna Rada Chairperson Volodymyr Groysman and EP President Martin Schulz had agreed to launch a comprehensive program of the parliamentary support of Ukraine. Pat Cox also said that the Group of the European Parliament had adopted a decision to regard Ukraine as a priority country for activities in the field of enhancement of the institutional capacities of the parliament and facilitate a dialogue. He said the decision was an evidence of the desire to establish long-term and fruitful partner relations with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
