Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legislative Support to Enforcement recommends Ukrainian Parliament adopt draft law "On amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine" (touching humanization of criminal responsibility of women) as a basis

The draft law No. 2254a offers to rule that life sentence is not applied on offenders aged under 18 and over 65, as well as on female offenders.

Respective amendments are offered to Section 2 of Article 64 of the Penal Code of Ukraine.

The draft law also offers to amend Articles 18, 150 and 1502 of the Correctional Code of Ukraine to bring them in line with the amendments to the Penal Code of Ukraine.

The people's deputies/members of the Committee drew attention to the fact that currently only 24 women serve life imprisonment in Ukraine and their number has not grown for quite a long period of time. The draft law offers to cut state expenditures for separate imprisonment of women in Ukraine.

According to the Secretariat of the Committee, the Committee members expressed their support to the draft law and recommended it for Verkhovna Rada's consideration.
