The chairman of subcommittee for regulation of labor relations and population employment of the Committee, Oleksandr Drozdyk, in particular, has announced during the event which took place of November 9 in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine, that the draft Labor Code of Ukraine adopted by the Parliament in the first reading, not only maintains the existing guarantees for employees, but even increases them.

O. Drozdyk drew the attention to the necessity of possibly soonest reformation of labor legislation of Ukraine, and stressed that the draft Code adoption in the first reading was preceded by hard work in the Committee.

"The authors of the draft Code carried out several meetings in the Committee for Social Policy, Employment and Pension Coverage, where positions of all participants of social dialogue, the state, trade unions, and employers, were discussed. Agreement on the draft provisions had been achieved, which allowed taking it as a basis at the Parliament Hall on November 5, 2015,” the chairman of subcommittee for regulation of labor relations and population employment emphasized.

Oleksandr Drozdyk mentioned than individual provisions of the draft Code will be delineated more precisely before the second reading, nevertheless, it already assures a certain balance between the interests of employers and employees.

The People’s Deputy disclaimed certain speculations existing in the society as regards individual provisions of the draft Labor Code. "No infringement or decrease of women’s or disabled persons’ rights exists or may exist in the draft. Besides, a 40-hour working week is maintained for all employees, and the main annual leave will be increased to 28 days," O. Drozdyk announced.

In particular, the draft contains an individual rule prohibiting an employer to force an employee to quit. Besides, an employee maintains the right of protection against illegal dismissal, and dismissal of an employee, a member of trade union, in certain cases of an employer’s initiative may be performed only subsequent to agreement with the trade union.

O. Drozdyk emphasized that the Committee for Social Policy, Employment and Pension Coverage is ready for fruitful cooperation on improvement of the draft Labor Code before the second reading. "Together with the social partners, we will discuss the business proposals and work out all controversial issues,” he said.

According to the communication provided to the Information Department at the Committee’s secretariat, the "round table" was participated by People’s Deputies, representatives of ministries and offices, the National Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Ukraine, Federation of Employers of Ukraine, All-Ukrainian Association of Employers, Federation of Employers in Transportation of Ukraine, Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine, All-Ukrainian Personnel Officers Association of Ukraine, Committee of Entrepreneurs under the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine, specialists of human resources and legal departments of business agents.
