The Chairperson of the Committee has had a meeting with a delegation of the Democratic Partnership Development Program (DPDP) of the U.S. House of Representatives in the frames of its assessment mission aimed at further development of partnership with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The Program is aimed at studying effects of the activity aiming to enhance legislative work and support cooperation with 16 parliaments of different countries, including the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The participants of the meeting discussed general issues of functioning of the DPDP Commission's mission, in particular, facilitation of responsible, effective authorities and consolidation of democratic institutions through support to lawmaking bodies of the emerging democracies.
Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs Hanna Hopko informed about current political situation in Ukraine, in particular, counteraction to the Russia's aggression in the east of the country, implementation of important domestic reforms. She also informed about current work of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs. She highly appreciated cooperation with the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs of the United States in Ukraine, in particular, in exchanging experience and deepening of bilateral relations at the legislative level aimed at participation of parliamentarians and Parliament employees in different education seminars.
At the end of the meeting, the delegation of the U.S. House of Representatives handed over a letter to Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman as to resumption of the agreement on partnership between the DPDP Commission and the Ukrainian Parliament, which would allow members and employees of the Congress to cooperate directly with their colleagues in the parliaments of Ukraine and the United States.
