On October 9-12, 2015, the city of Stavanger (the Kingdom of Norway) hosted a regular session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly headed by U.S. Congressman Mike Turner. The participants of the session were national parliamentary delegations from over 40 countries, including Ukraine.

The Ukrainian delegation was formed of people's deputies Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze, Yurii Bereza, Andrii Kozhemiyakin, Serhii Larin, Andrii Levus, Mustafa Nayem, and Viktor Chumak.

The forum was dedicated to boost of defense budgets of the Alliance in conditions of new challenges to security conditioned first of all by Russia's aggression upon Ukraine.

In their speeches addressed to the participants of the meeting, Mike Turner, Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway Erna Solberg drew particular attention to solidarity with Ukraine, full unity of the NATO member countries in their position on Russia.

The Ukraine's topic was the top-priority of the whole agenda of the session. In particular, the Ukrainian delegation was (as an exception) invited to take part in the meeting of one of the governing bodies of the Assembly — Standing Committee. In the frames of the meeting, head of the Ukrainian delegation Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze informed the present about current situation in Ukraine, reforms that take place in the country, reasons for protraction of the reforms and instruments to combat resistance to changes.

One third of the topic reports of five functional committees of the Parliamentary Assembly were either directly dedicated to Ukraine or touched its interests. The Ukrainian delegation took active part in their discussion. Most of its remarks and proposals were taken in consideration in the final wordings of the documents.

The Assembly approved eight resolutions, including "Solidarity with Ukraine," "Economic sanctions against Russia." The Assembly members supported almost all the remarks offered by the Ukrainian delegation to those resolutions.

At the same time, in the course of the discussion, it was initiated to smoothen the wording and terminology of the mentioned texts. However, thanks to pragmatic position of the Ukrainian delegation, which was supported by American, British, Polish, Lithuanian deputies, the spirit and purpose of the Resolutions remained unchanged.

As a result, the Assembly unanimously confirmed its strong support to the people and Government of Ukraine in their fight for independence and territorial integrity, as well as European and Euro-Atlantic strivings of the country, having called on the parliaments and governments of the member countries to double efforts in provision of different kinds of assistance to Ukraine. Besides, the Assembly called for being ready to toughen sanctions against Russia as payment for aggression against Ukraine.

In the frames of the session, the Ukrainian delegation had a number of meetings in particular, with Prime Minister of Norway Erna Solberg and President of the Storting (the supreme legislature of Norway) Olemic Thommessen.
