Introduction of effective mechanism to ensure transparency of media-ownership in Ukraine discussed during international conference organized by Verkhovna Rada Committee for Free Speech and Information Policy

According to the Committee secretariat the event took places under the auspices of a joint program of the European Union and the Council of Europe entitled Strengthening the Information Society in Ukraine.

According to Head of the Committee Viktoriya Siumar, the transparency of the media-ownership itself does not tackle all the problems Ukrainian society is facing today, however, without proper settlement of the issues related to that transparency reforms in Ukraine are unlikely.

The concluding document of the international conference envisions Recommendations entitled "Strengthening the Information Society in Ukraine" supported by conference participants.
