Verkhovna Rada hosts roundtable dedicated to discussion of draft law "On local election"

Opening the event, First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Andrii Parubii noted: "Radical renewal of the election legislation is one of the important tasks we are facing today."

Parubii reminded that the coalition agreement clearly reads that the parliamentary coalition aims to introduce proportional election system with open lists and election of city heads in two rounds under the principle of absolute majority.

Parubii expressed hope that next week the draft law "On local elections" will be adopted in first reading.

He said that this document requires adaptation as soon as possible and it must be adopted before the end of the second session in order to ensure holding of autumn local elections on the basis new election law.
