Ex-presidential envoy for energy security (2008-2010) Bohdan Sokolovskyi said about the state of and prospects in the energy sector of Ukraine. He said Ukraine has “entered the period of changes and transformations and long ago should have had to switch to market prices in the energy sector.” At the same time, he noted that the problem is “soviet system of management and organization of the Ukrainian economy, which slows down the reforms.”

Deputy finance minister of Ukraine (1992-1993), former employee of the International Monetary Fund and former head of the expert council of the Economic Development Ministry (2014), Oleh Havrylyshyn, focused on prospects of economic reforms in Ukraine. The experts noted that “unfortunately, once Ukraine lost its chance to transform during the switch from the soviet system to new market economy at the beginning of 1990s.” Today, Havrylyshyn said that procedures and rules of economic activity should be deregulated and simplified, and the energy carriers’ prices should be raised, fiscal reforms should be conducted, as soon as possible.”

Besides, there were meetings with president of the Foundation of Good Politics Mykhailo Minaklov and vice-president of the Construction Sector Support Foundation Toralph Weise.

The classes entitled “Culture of Ukrainian Broadcasting” was founded in order to raise the level of culture of business broadcasting for the participants of the Internship Programme in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and central bodies of executive power 2014-2015. The classes are held by Mariyana Doboni, a philologist and graduate of the Program.

 

Reference information: Internship Programme in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and central bodies of executive power was founded in 1995 by the United States Association of Former Members of Congress in conjunction with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Since 2000 the internship takes place within the Parliamentary Development Project II (Legislative Policy Development Program) with financial support from USAID.

 

1300 young specialists became the participants of the Programme during 19 years. They undertook internship in the committees and departments of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, as well as in the bodies of executive power. The Program for 2014-2015 includes 101 participants.
