The Romanian parliamentary delegation’s participants were President of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies Laszlo Borbely; High Representative of the Romanian Government on EU Affairs Ana Birchall; member of the Committee for Defence, Public Order, and National Security Mihaita Calimente; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Cornel Ionescu.
At the meeting Ukraine was represented by secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee for National Security and Defence Ivan Vinnik and members of the Verkhovna Rada Committee for Foreign Affairs Borys Tarasiuk, Viktor Vovk and Volodymyr Ariyev.
At the meeting Hanna Hopko expressed gratitude for assistance to Ukraine and hope for further facilitation of development of bilateral cooperation through intensified parliamentary contacts.
In turn, representative of Romania announced interest in fruitful cooperation between the two parliaments, as the level of cooperation over the last several years has not been sufficient.
The meeting discussed the situation in the east of Ukraine, in Crimea, and assistance to Ukraine in different fields. Certain attention was paid to the issues of Transnistria conflict and rights of national minorities.
The parties paid attention to necessity for further development of Ukraine-Romania interparliamentary cooperation in order to develop relations in many fields. In particular, Iryna Heraschenko drew attention to enhancement of sanctions to avoid new acts of aggressions by the Russian Federation; strengthening of Ukrainian army via providing it with weaponry, military hardware, medical aid; assistance of Romania in introduction of visa-free regime between Ukraine and the European Union. Besides, the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee for European Integration expressed gratitude for assistance to students from the east of Ukraine in going into education at Romanian establishments.
Representatives of Ukraine requested assistance in combating information war held by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
Hanna Hopko pointed out the importance of further adjustment of interparliamentary relations, necessity for involvement of members of other committees in joint work, and expressed hope for fruitful cooperation between the two countries in the future.
