The Committee on Environmental Policy, Nature Resources Utilization and Elimination of the Consequences of Chornobyl Catastrophe upholds the bill on amendments to article 265 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine re voluntary handover of radioactive materials

The bill (Reg. No. 4538a) establishes that a person who committed a crime stipulated by part one of article 265 of the Code shall be released from criminal responsibility if he/she voluntary handovers radioactive materials to government authority.

Adoption of the abovementioned bill will increase the degree of safety of the present-day and future generations against harmful influence of ionizing radiation from radioactive wastes; positively influence the state of radiation safety; decrease negative influence on the environment and population; and establish favorable conditions for the retrieval of radioactive waste from the regions and their handover to specialized enterprises.
