Adjournment of the fourth session and opening of the fifth session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the seventh convocation was held in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on September 2, 2014.
At the beginning of the plenary meeting, the people’s deputies and those present held a minute’s silence to pay tribute to the defenders of Ukraine who died near Ilovaisk, fighting way out of encirclement.
Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov announced that members of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, leaders of the central and regional bodies of executive power, leaders of judicial power and heads of foreign diplomatic missions, as well as other officials participate in the plenary meeting.
Oleksandr Turchynov summarized the results of work of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine during the fourth session. He noted that “in the situation of an overt war, with participation of regular troops of the Russian Federation, the Parliament has canceled traditional summer break and took the decision on the continuity of the fourth session in order to secure the possibility of immediate legislative response to the developments and the situation in the country.”
Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine announced the fourth session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to be adjourned and simultaneously, the fifth session - to be opened.
The choir sang the Anthem of Ukraine and the Spiritual Anthem of Ukraine.
