On Thursday, after the plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, President Petro Poroshenko, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov and Prime-Minister of Ukraine Arsenii Yatseniuk met with leaders of deputies' factions and groups.
According to Chair of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov, they discussed holding early parliamentary elections in 2014. In the view of adopting the law on amendments to the State Budget for 2014, participants of the meeting agreed it is necessary to reduce the cost of election procedures and decrease a term of election campaign to 45 days.
The participants agreed on elaboration of a coordinated draft on amendments to the electoral legislation. They also agreed on holding consultations about introducing a proportional electoral system with open voting lists, renewing electoral blocks as subjects of electoral process, and about other electoral procedures.
