During the meeting on July 23, the President of Ukraine stressed the importance of women’s role, especially the role of women-politicians, in the implementation of the peace plan, fulfillment of a peacekeeping mission and supporting the initiatives on settlement of the situation. In particular, Petro Poroshenko noted that women are especially interested in the establishment of peace.

The President of Ukraine told about his meeting with mothers and wives of military men involved in the ATO in the East of Ukraine. The Head of the State said that he “is impressed with their courage and patriotism and the way they courageously bear themselves when their men fulfill complicated combat missions”. He stressed that as a Supreme Commander-in-Chief, he will do his best to protect soldiers.

The Head of State appreciated the deed of the Ukrainian pilot Nadiia Savchenko and added that he will do everything possible to liberate her.

The President of Ukraine stressed the necessity of establishing a “hot line” for soldiers’ mothers and wives, and noted that he will give the respective instructions to the Defense Ministry.

Petro Poroshenko emphasized that he stands for increasing the number of women in the government. “European integration stipulates the necessity of increasing the number of women in all branches of power,” he stressed. The President of Ukraine calls it a negative fact that there is only one woman-minister in the Government and that women make up only 10% of the Parliament.

The Head of State noted that he supports the position of female people’s deputies who stand for introduction of a gender-based quota allocation in the electoral legislation. “It is important to analyze, legally regulate and ensure the increase of a woman’s role not only in the society, but also in government of a state,” he said.

The President of Ukraine has set a task to Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin to increase the number of female diplomats who will lead Ukrainian diplomatic missions and represent Ukraine in the EU countries. He believes that “potential, as well as educational and professional level of Ukrainian women is extremely high and the government should consider it when implementing the staffing policy”.

The Head of State also emphasized that he stands for an active dialogue with the Parliament.
