The Committee Chair Serhii Kivalov told members of the delegation about the activity of the Committee on the Rule of Law and Justice in the sphere of law-making, as well as about the legislative plans for the nearest future.
Particularly, S.Kivalov informed his colleagues about the Law “On Regaining Trust to the Court System of Ukraine” adopted by the Verkhovna Rada in April, this year.
Chairman of the Committee stressed that it is necessary to amend the Main Law of Ukraine in order to further reform the court system.
S.Kivalov noted that the issue of supplementing the applicable legislation with the provisions that aim at changing and broadening powers of the Supreme Court of Ukraine is topical at present.
First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on the Rule of Law and Justice Oleh Bondarchuk and Committee’s members Roman Stadniichuk and Anzhelika Labunska also were in attendance. They stressed that a complicated and long period is waiting Ukraine ahead after the Association Agreement is signed, and that the Ukrainian people hope for the support of the European Union.
In his turn, President of the Judiciary Committee of the Senate of the Kingdom of Spain Joaquin Ramirez told about the system of world courts and about the developed system of specialized Spanish courts, etc. He noted that “our countries are extremely alike and our experience can come useful.”
Joaquin Ramirez suggested possible directions for cooperation.
Members of the Spanish delegation thanked for the meeting and agreed with the Ukrainian parliamentarians to continue cooperation.
