Leadership of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and its Secretariat, the people’s deputies of Ukraine and former people’s deputies-deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine express their condolences in connection with death of Ivan Pliushch

With deep sorrow does the Verkhovna Rada inform that an outstanding Ukrainian statesman and political figure; Hero of Ukraine; the people’s deputy of Ukraine of the first, second, third, fourth and sixth convocations; Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (elected twice in 1991 – 1994 and in 2000 – 2002); Secretary of the National Defence and Security Council of Ukraine (2007) Ivan Stepanovych PLIUSHCH, aged 72, has passed away. 

I.S.Pliushch was born on September 11, 1941 in the township of Borzna of Chernihiv Oblast.

Born in an average rural family, Ivan Stepanovych has passed through a great and decent life journey. Political and social life of modern Ukrainian history cannot be imagined without his marked individuality. He has stormed into the mainstream politics during the birth of a new Ukrainian state, possessing a great experience of governmental and economic activity in Kyiv region, where he was one of the first one to take the heat of Chornobyl.  

Under the leadership of Ivan Pliushch, the Ukrainian Parliament adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine in July 1990.

Ivan Stepanovych was a true, highly-organized, professional and responsible leader, consistent in reaching the set goal. He has never bent to circumstances and was always looking for a way out.  

His merits were highly appreciated at a state level. I.S.Pliushch is chevalier of the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, Order of Badge of Honor, Order of the Prince Yaroslav the Wise of V and VI degrees and an owner of numerous medals. He was given the highest title of the Ukrainian state – the Hero of Ukraine, and was presented with the State’s Order. 

An outstanding politician, tireless fighter and a talented organizer, a man of civic duty, crystal-clear consciousness and a generous person, who selflessly dedicated himself to serving Homeland, has passed away.  

People turned to Ivan Stepanovych who was inherently dowered with life wisdom, humor and great kindness. 

The bright and imperishable memory of Ivan Stepanovych Pliushch will for ever remain in the hearts of millions of our compatriots, of all those who knew and loved this bright Personality.
