On Friday in the Parliament Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Turchynov congratulated journalists on their professional holiday.

Having expressed gratitude to all the present for professionalism, not indifferent and civic stand, he stressed the importance of “creating a transparent system of informing the society”.

Oleksandr Turchynov emphasized that latest events showed that “journalism is really a state of mind, and owing to journalists’ stand the truth has won, Ukraine has won”.

At the same time, the Chairman of the Parliament stated that mass media workers were present on the Maidan in 2004 as well. “It seemed then that the democracy won. However, time has passed and gag orders appeared again”, he said. Thus, Oleksandr Turchynov thinks it is necessary to do everything possible so that there will be “no return path”.

According to Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, it is symbolic that fences in front of the Parliament were cut down, since “it is important that there are no fences between the government and the society”.

Oleksandr Turchynov thanked journalists who side by side together with the National Guard fighters were risking their lives covering developments in the East of Ukraine. “Your courage and professionalism let everyone find out the truth about how Ukraine protects its freedom of speech and independence”, he said.

For the courage and professional skills in covering social and political developments in the East of Ukraine under crisis conditions Oleksandr Turchynov presented several journalists with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine awards.
