During the discussion of the status of health care provided to Ukrainian children with oncohematological and oncological diseases, the Committee members stated that this sphere has several important problems.

Particularly it was mentioned that due to the lack of possibility to use efficient methods of treating this pathology, our country sends abroad from 10 to 20 children, among them over 50% with oncohematological diseases.

Every year 600-800 Ukrainian children require transplantation of bone marrow and at least a third of them – from a non-family donor. Such transplantation can not be performed in Ukraine. Europe has only two countries left that do not perform transplantations of bone narrows from a non-family donor – Ukraine and Albania.

Chairperson of the Committee Tetiana Bakhteieva informed participants of the meeting about state of health care provided to children with oncological diseases in the Republic of Belarus. During her stay in Belarus Tetiana Bakhteieva had an opportunity to visit the Center for Pediatric Hematology and Oncology in Minsk where 17 Ukrainian children are being treated, and met with their parents.

The Committee drew attention of the Minister of Health to the necessity of an urgent settlement of series of issues aimed at resolving this problem.

During the discussion of the issue on the state of medications procurement, the Committee’s members stressed the critical state of providing health care institutions with medications which causes negative results of their work and creates social tension in the society.

Following the results of the consideration of these issues, the Committee approved drafts of respective decisions.
