Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Acting President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov congratulated veterans of the Great Patriotic War on the occasion of the Victory Day in the “Shuster live” TV programme. He stressed that Ukraine did a lot to win this war. “Without our Ukrainian heroes there would be no victory, he claimed, and added that we owe a lot to our people.”
Oleksandr Turchynov informed that during the flower-laying ceremony to the Memorial of Glory veterans stressed that at present, they dream of peace and calm the same as during the war.
Chairman of the Parliament noted that the Victory Day was celebrated decently in Ukraine: in Kharkiv, Kyiv, Odesa and other cities except for the eastern part of the country, particularly, the city of Mariupol. “In the course of celebration of the Victory Day in Mariupol, terrorists attacked building of the Internal Affairs Ministry. There was a fierce fighting, people died, - he said, stressing that leadership of the Russian Federation are at the back of it all. “Leadership of the Russian Federation aimed at destabilizing situation in Ukraine,” stressed Oleksandr Turchynov and reminded that as the result of such actions, civilians died.
According to the Chairman of the Parliament, “these dangerous criminal actions destroy Donbas’ economy; people are left without salaries; production stops.” He noted that unfortunately, “bacchanalia and terrible terror is carried out with the assistance of a large number of local population.” “This is the most serious problem when population, being deceived by the Russian propaganda, supports terrorists,” he noted and added that “anyway, we should remain people and preserve human attitude to the developments around us.” At the same time, according to him, lots of people in the East are patriots of Ukraine.
Oleksandr Turchynov said that slow course of the Counterterrorist operation is primarily connected with unwillingness to harm civilians. According to him, terrorists could be easily liquidated, if there were no people who, being deceived by the propaganda, shield terrorists. “All this significantly complicates task of the Counterterrorist operation, which primarily lies in protecting people from lawlessness, terror and killings” he said.
