The authority is interested in strong local self-government. Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Acting President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov said this in an interview to “Ukraina” TV channel.

“I want citizens of the East to know that the authority, the same as you, is interested in strong local self-government; in independence of a number of economic and social issues; and in the issue of independent financial provision,” he said, having stressed that the authority wishes for the regions to independently choose their leadership that would be “responsible for the regions.”

According to him, the authority wants to make respective amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine.

“I hope that by the end of May we will manage to vote for these constitutional changes in the first reading and after the opinion of the Constitutional Court is received – in entirety, in September-October, this year,” said Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.

Full version of the interview with Oleksandr Turchynov will be broadcasted tomorrow, on April 20 at 7 p.m. on air of “Ukraina” TV channel.
