The bill (Reg. No. 3881) suggests supplement a norm of the current law, according to which a child can not have more than two names, unless otherwise is stipulated by traditions of a national minority a mother and (or) a father belongs to, with a provision according to which, “a child’s name shall correspond to their sex. A child can not be given a name consisting of inanimate objects, fictional characters, geographical names, flora and fauna, titles, disease, simultaneous combination of letters, symbols and (or) numbers, abbreviations”.
It is also suggested to establish that in case civil registration authorities refuse to assign a name to a child, which does not correspond to requirements of part 2 of this article, parents (or one of the parents) can file a complaint to a higher-level authority or a court.
As the Committee’s Chair Artur Palatnyi claimed, the bill is very socially important and will protect the child’s right to determine their name.
