In the course of the meeting, a wide range of issues regarding current developments in Ukraine, as well as the ways to overcome political and economic crisis were discussed.
“We build, protect and cleanse the society, and your experience in finding the ways to civilized and democratic state is an orienting point of how not to get trapped on this way,” said Deputy Chairman of the Parliament addressing participants of the meeting.
According to him, the first steps of a new Ukrainian authority should be decentralization of governance, openness of state authority, establishment of control at the level of bodies of local self-government and central authorities, as well as extensive dialogue in the society.
“Ukraine’s main tasks lie in restoring military, economic and energy security,” said R.Koshulynskyi. He stressed importance of taking measures to “distance from the monopoly of the Russian Federation” in energy issues.
R.Koshulynskyi highly appreciated support of the Weimar Triangle member states to the people of Ukraine in our aspirations to make our state a democratic and European country. “Evaluation of our aspirations to the European Union by the international community is extremely important to Ukraine,” he noted.
In this context, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine thanked for the support to Ukraine provided within international organizations, particularly, during the latter PACE session and in adopting the UN Parliamentary Assembly Resolution on the territorial integrity of our state.
“Steps taken by the international community regarding isolation of the Russian Federation are extremely important for Ukraine,” stressed R.Koshulynskyi.
He noted that one of the most important tasks that the Ukrainian society faces is election of a new legitimate authority during the presidential elections on May 25, this year. R.Koshulynskyi invited representatives of the parliaments of Weimar Triangle member states to participate in the OSCE Observation Mission in order to secure holding of fair, transparent and unbiased elections of the Head of the state.
Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada noted that the Ukrainian Party is interested in activating cooperation with member states of Weimar Triangle. “Ukraine welcomes common standing of the parliaments of Weimar Triangle member states to hold a Conference on international financial and technical assistance after the presidential elections in Ukraine,” he said.
According to R.Koshulynskyi, legislative experience of these countries is also useful for Ukraine.
Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada informed that the Verkhovna Rada adopts laws that draw us nearer to the EU standards. Particularly, he said that during the next plenary week Ukrainian Parliament intends to adopt legislative acts necessary for completion of the first phase of the Action plan for the visa regime liberalization.
Heads of the committees on foreign affairs of the parliaments of Weimar Triangle expressed support to the Ukrainian people in their struggle for democracy and also expressed hope for further development of inter-parliamentary cooperation at all levels.
President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Assemblee Nationale of the French Republic Elisabeth Guigou, Chairman of the Bundestag Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federal Republic of Germany Norbert Rottgen and Chairman of the Sejm’s Foreign Affairs Committee of the Republic of Poland Grzegorz Schetyna participated in the meeting.
