The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law “On amendments to the Criminal Executive Code of Ukraine re adapting legal status of the convicted with European standards”

The Law determines investigative detention facilities as an establishment for executing criminal offences, and improves: procedure of controlling bodies’ visits to establishments for executing punishment; procedure and conditions of executing punishment in a form of an arrest; procedure and conditions for serving a sentence in a form of restriction of liberty (the right to have portable personal computers and accessories to them; the right to use mobile communication means).

The Law also stipulates specificate rights of the convicted and their obligations; short-term departures outside the colony for receiving medical care if such care can not be provided on the territory of a respective place of detention; increase a number of meetings for the convicted; cancel public control over persons convicted on parole.

The document stipulates specify rules for detaining persons with tuberculosis; improve medical care for the detained; etc.

Respective amendments were made to the Criminal Executive Code of Ukraine.

Respective bill was registered under No. 4525.
