The Committee on Matters of Pensioners, Veterans and Persons with Disabilities recommends that the Parliament should adopt as a basis the draft resolution on recognizing persons that defended Ukraine during the confrontation period in 2014 as combatants

During its meeting on March 26, the Committee took the decision to recommend the Verkhovna Rada, following the results of consideration in the first reading, adopt the draft resolution (Reg. No. 4509) exclusively as a basis, since it requires significant adjustment for the second reading.

The bill aims at granting the status of combatant to the military men of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian Navy, the Security Service of Ukraine, Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, junior enlisted, senior officers, military men of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and other military units set up in line with Ukrainian laws, as well as other NGOs and separate citizens that actively participated in the confrontation of 2014. 

In view of this, the draft resolution suggests entrust the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to determine the List of subdivisions, NGOs and separate citizens that defended Ukraine during the confrontation of 2014.

Apart from this, the bill suggests determine the abovementioned persons as combatants and entitle them to privileges stipulated by the Law “On the Status of War Veterans and Guarantees of their Social Protection.”
