Meetings of interns of the 2013-2014 Internship Programme at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with Ukrainian public figures, politicians and statesmen continued in March 2014

Particularly, in the course of the meeting with the Minister of Science and Education Serhii Kvit, the bill on higher education was discussed (Reg. No. 1187-2). According to Minister, it should be considered by the Verkhovna Rada in the “nearest time”. Serhii Kvit informed also that the document was elaborated by the working group under the guidance of Mykhailo Zhurovskyi, rector at Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

Minister of Science and Education noted that the bill stipulates structural amendments in the higher education. “Universities should receive tools that will help them become competitive on the global scientific arena,” said Serhii Kvit.

According to him, the document includes a provision regarding “integration of academic and university science” and establishment of the thread education cycle – the PhD level.

Serhii Kvit said that the Ukrainian higher education will “develop in the direction of quality” in the nearest time. The Ministry of Education and Science plans to reduce the number of paper-based accountability and withdraw from ratings of higher educational establishments. According to Minister, ensuring maximum publicity of the defense of a thesis is an important reform. Serhii Kvit informed also that the Higher Attestation Commission will be separated from the Ministry.
