On Friday Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, acting President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov met with delegation of the US Congress headed by Senator John McCain.
The Parties discussed present situation in Ukraine and military aggression of the Russian Federation on the Crimean peninsula.
According to Oleksandr Turchynov, what is happening now in Crimea is an attempt to restore the Soviet Empire by using force.
“Today the confrontation has come to a new level: either a new young democracy wins or totalitarian curtain falls on Ukraine,” he said, stressing that the government hopes for real assistance of strategic partners and states–parties of the Budapest Memorandum.
At the same time, the Parties agreed with the necessity of finding a peaceful way of regulating the conflict in Crimea.
Oleksandr Turchynov stressed that “unfortunately, Russia has not given any signals of a possible peaceful settlement of this conflict”.
“Not having any motif, Russian government keeps behaving aggressively in Crimea and is not withdrawing its troops from the eastern border of Ukraine,” said the Chairman of the Parliament.
In its turn, the American Party assured that the USA is ready to provide Ukraine with comprehensive assistance in resolving the conflict on the Crimean peninsula.
“We will do everything we can to help you,” stressed John McCain.
The Parties agreed that the present situation in Crimea is an examination of a system of collective security work in the XXI century and whether all controversial issues, that will be further appearing in the world, will be resolved only by using force.
