A meeting of Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Turchynov and Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Jan Eliasson was held.

During the meeting, the Parties discussed the issue of developments in Ukraine, paying particular attention to the situation on the Crimean peninsula.

According to Oleksandr Turchynov, the situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea is “very dangerous.”

“I hope that authority of such respectful organization will help settle this difficult situation that has occurred now in Crimea,” stressed the Chairman of the Parliament, adding that he thinks it is unacceptable that the Russian Party tries to change political system of an independent country in a gun-toting way.

Regarding ways of settling this complicated situation in Ukraine, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations pointed out the main task for now – “to jointly come to a diplomatic and political decision on this issue.”

“In no way should you doubt our loyalty to the idea of integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine,” claimed Jan Eliasson.
