The Committee on the Rule of Law and Justice recommends that the Parliament adopt as a basis the draft law on amendments to the Law “On the Constitutional Court of Ukraine” re improving the legal status, organization and operating procedure of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine

It was mentioned at the Committee meeting that the bill (Reg. No. 3721) suggests “establish the beginning of validity period of authority of the Constitutional Court judge; assign authority of the Constitutional Court regarding providing conclusions on compliance of the bills on amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine with articles 157 and 158 of the Basic Law and on violation of the Constitution or laws of Ukraine by the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea; regulate the issue on dismissal of the Constitutional Court judge upon their statement of resignation or dismissal from office at their own request; set a time period for adopting a provision on opening or rejection of opening a constitutional procedure; supplement the law with a new chapter 17; supplement the law also with a new chapter 18, etc.           

The people’s deputies also paid attention to the fact that law’s provisions regarding the Constitutional Court judge having a lapel badge, the description and form of which are approved by the Verkhovna Rada (article 10), should be specified.  

According to the Committee members, suggested amendments will allow improve the legal status, organization and operating procedure of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine which will promote efficiency of activity of a single authority of constitutional jurisdiction in Ukraine.
