Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Rybak: Specific measures are to be taken to enhance cooperation of parliaments of Ukraine and Russia in the economic direction

 During the meetings with Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko and Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin, which were held in the framework of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States in Saint Petersburg on Thursday, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak stressed that ‘Ukraine intends to develop its relations with the Customs Union member-states on good neighbourly and mutually beneficial basis, as well as implement plans and agreements adopted both at bilateral and multilateral levels.’

During the meetings, the Parties discussed a wide range of topical issues of interparliamentary component of bilateral relations, particularly concerning implementation of necessary measures at legislative level aimed at further development of trade and economic relations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, as well as regarding extension of cooperation in cultural and humanitarian sphere.   

Volodymyr Rybak appreciated a considerable role of interparliamentary relations in Ukrainian-Russian cooperation. According to him, events organized by the Russian Parliament Houses in the framework of celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Constitution of the Russian Federation became a great foundation for interparliamentary contacts. The Chairman of the Parliament also expressed his hope for holding the 11th meeting of the Interparliamentary Cooperation Commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation in Dnipropetrovsk dedicated to cooperation in space and nuclear power industries. ‘We are ready for a comprehensive discussion,’ he stressed.         

Volodymyr Rybak addressed the Russian Party with a request to promote creating an observation mission from the IPA CIS, as well as from the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation for monitoring re-elections of the people’s deputies in Ukraine in five single-mandate constituencies on December 15 of this year.  

Taking into account tendencies of decrease in bilateral turnover, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine suggested make specific measures to enhance cooperation of our parliaments in the economic direction. ‘We hope that fruitful cooperation of customs and border services of our countries will allow avoid complicated situations on the Ukrainian-Russian border,’ said the Chairman of the Parliament.    

Volodymyr Rybak also expressed his hope that joint celebration of the 200th birth anniversary of Taras Shevchenko in 2014 under the previous agreements will promote further strengthening of friendship and mutual understanding between our peoples.
