On Monday, within the framework of official visit to Canada, Ukrainian parliamentary delegation headed by Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak participated in the flower-laying ceremony to the monument of Taras H. Shevchenko in Ottawa.
Monument to Taras Shevchenko in the Canada’s capital is located on the
territory of Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of Saint John the Baptizer. It was
officially opened on June 26, 2011 under the auspices of the Ukrainian Embassy
in Canada.
Its opening was dedicated to the 120th settlement anniversary of
Ukrainians in Canada and to
the 20th independence anniversary of Ukraine. After the ceremony, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine presented an icon to the senior priest of Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of Saint John the Baptizer Fr. Kyryl Mykytiuk.
Volodymyr Rybak communicated with the Director of the only one on the
American continent Museum of Taras Shevchenko in Toronto - Liudmyla Pohorelova, who was
present at the ceremony. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada rendered her
materials brought from Ukraine
and prepared by the National Taras Shevchenko
Museum and the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada Vadym Prystaiko, representatives of the Ukrainian community and journalists were also present at the ceremony.
As informed earlier, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak, heading parliamentary delegation, pays an official visit to Canada on November 24-27. The official delegation involves representatives of different factions – Volodymyr Polochaninov, Bohdan Beniuk, Oleh Zarubinskyi, Yevhen Kartashov and rectors of leading Ukrainian universities.
