Congratulations on the Day of the Ukrainian Writing and Language

Dear fellow citizens!

I sincerely congratulate you on the Day of the Ukrainian Writing and Language.

A long process of establishing the Ukrainian language was not easy, but our people, despite all the hardships on its way, managed to preserve our language so that we could communicate in it, feel its beauty and melodiousness. It is the Ukrainian language that enhances consolidation of society, its spiritual enrichment and that unites us on our way to cultural and social development.

The bright pearls of our writing – the Tale of Bygone Years, the Tale of Igor's Campaign, the Peresopnytsia Gospel –became important preconditions for the birth of the Ukrainian literature. Taras Shevchenko, Hryhorii Skovoroda, Lesia Ukrainka and other mighty figures of our spiritual life made a significant contribution to the treasury of the world’s culture.

Development of language is an obligatory constituent of a nation’s intellectual growth. Now the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine works on amendments to humanitarian legislation aimed at all-round development and consolidation of positions of the national language.

Dear friends! Respect the language of your ancestors, cherish it since the love to your Homeland is impossible without true love to your native language!

Volodymyr RYBAK
