New version of the Law “On Higher Education” should reflect interests of educators and students, and should correspond to the hopes of the society – Volodymyr Rybak

During the working visit to Rivne oblast, the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak acquainted himself with the activity of the National University Water Management and Nature Resources Use in Rivne.

Communicating with the teaching staff and the students, Volodymyr Rybak stressed that Ukraine should have such a law on higher education that would allow us come to the European level and secure recognition of our diplomas across Europe. 

The Chairman of the Parliament stressed that the process of adopting a new version of the Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education” should be accelerated, since provisions of the applicable law no longer correspond to modern tasks of training specialists. The Chairman of the Parliament believes that innovational development of the state can be ensured only this way.

He informed that three bills on reforming higher education were referred to the Parliament. According to the Chairman of the Parliament, their authors tried to settle the issue from different stands. However, following the results of numerous proposals and recommendations to hearings that were carried out at the initiative of the Committee on Science and Education, it will be necessary to elaborate and refer for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada the consolidated draft law “On Higher Education’. 

Volodymyr Rybak addressed the scientists asking to get acquainted with the mentioned bills, to amend the respective proposals regarding increasing the quality of education, expanding access to educational services and strengthening the control over their quality, improving the working conditions of the pedagogical personnel. He stressed that a new version of the law “On the higher education” should reflect concerns of pedagogues and students, correspond to the society’s expectations, its wish for a decent life.

Also during the work visit to Rivne Oblast the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada visited Rivne Regional Perinatal Centre. This public medical institution is one of the best in Oblast, its work is aimed to protect and help motherhood and childhood. The center offers highly specialized medical care for the pregnant, birthing mothers, including high risk pregnant women and women with pathologies. The centre also provides full treatment cycle of newborns, as well as children with extremely low birth weight.       

Speaking with medical personnel, Volodymyr Rybak stressed that our offsprings should be born in such centres and the government should provide new generation with conditions for a decent life and development. The centre was built in the region upon the initiative of the President of Ukraine.
