The state of legislative support to the development of transport infrastructure of Ternopil Oblast was considered during the visiting session of the Committee on Transport and Communications in the city of Ternopil

The people’s deputies, leaders of central bodies of executive power, of regional state administration, Ternopil city mayor, chairmen of separate subdivisions of oblast state administration, representatives of local bodies of executive power and local self-government were present at the meeting. 

Committee members considered the state of funding construction, repair and maintenance of automobile roads; prospects of further development of road branch and functioning of transport infrastructure of Ternopil Oblast 

The people’s deputies discussed also the prospect of development of aviation transportation on the territory of Ternopil Oblast. 

It was noted that UAH 2,4 billion are needed for the repair of roads and crossovers located in Ternopil Oblast. It was mentioned that not less than 5% of the State Budget funds should annually be allocated for the development of road infrastructure.   

The Chairman of the Committee Borys Kolesnikov noted that “local authorities should decide which roadways and in what sequence should be repaired”.

The issue of transportation logistics should be agreed, as was mentioned during the meeting.

It was suggested to refuse form freight transport reequipped into passenger transport. Participants of discussion believe it will allow decrease accidents on the roads. It was proposed to gradually introduce innovations. 

“Ternopil Oblast is compact in size and has a convenient location, thus, the launch of such a pilot project here is a good initiative that will, no doubt, bring positive results,” commented Borys Kolesnikov.      

Final decision on the issues raised, will be taken by the Committee during its next meeting in November 6, 2013.
