The Committee on Judicial Policy recognized the draft law on amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine (re ensuring constitutional rights of participants of criminal proceedings) as non-contradicting to the provisions of the Constitution of Ukraine

According to the explanatory note, the bill (Reg. No. 2399a) was elaborated in order to strengthen democracy and the rule of law, ensure unconditional fulfillment of tasks of criminal proceedings, provide adequate protection of human rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution of Ukraine, the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms; as well as to prevent any abuse by law enforcement officers in the course of criminal proceedings.   

During the meeting it was noted that in its conclusions the Ministry of Justice voiced several remarks to the bill, however, according to the Committee members, they did not refer to the contradiction to the provisions of the Constitution of Ukraine.
