The Committee on Environmental Policy, Use of Natural Resources and Chornobyl Aftermath Mitigation supports ratification of the European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals

During the discussion it was noted that the Convention is aimed at ensuring the protection and humane treatment of pet animals, at defining basic principled for animal welfare, conditions of their keeping, breeding and training, at establishing age limit of acquisition of pet animals, restrictions on their use for commercial purposes, legal order for the establishment and operation of animal shelters, restrictions for use of pet animals in advertising and entertainment, acceptable cases of pet animals surgeries and their killing, measures that can be applied towards stray animals, particularly to decrease their population, and exceptions for their capture, keeping and killing.         

Respective draft law was registered under No. 0032.  

The Committee members also supported the draft law on amendments to several legislative acts of Ukraine regarding the responsibility for violations of keeping dogs, cats and other animals (Reg. No. 2580a).
