The Committee on Culture and Spirituality considered the draft law on amendments to several legislative acts of Ukraine (re modernization of libraries and development of librarianship)

Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Koshulynskyi and Deputy Minister of Culture Viktor Baliurko participated in the meeting of the Committee.
The author of the bill (Reg. No. 2849), member of the Committee Yaroslav Fedorchuk noted that it aims at establishing legal norms that would promote modernization of libraries, replenishment of librarian funds, ensure technical and technological re-equipment of libraries, promote proper functioning of e-libraries, etc.Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Koshulynskyi stressed the importance of soonest possible modernization of national libraries.
Committee members have also considered and upheld a number of draft resolutions on celebration of memorable dates and jubilees. In particular:
on celebration of the 70th anniversary of the tragedy in the village of Kopyshche (Reg. No. 2322а);
on celebration of the 170th birth anniversary of Osyp Barvinskyi (Reg. No. 3009);
on celebration of the 180th birth anniversary of Yuriy Fedkovych (Reg. No. 3010);
on celebration of the 600th first written record anniversary of the village of Havrylivtsi of Kitsman region of Chernivtsi Oblast (Reg. No. 3049);
on celebration of the 600th establishment anniversary of the village of Khlivyshche of Kitsman region of Chernivtsi Oblast (Reg. No. 3050);
on celebration of the 600th establishment anniversary of the village of Davydivtsi of Kitsman region of Chernivtsi Oblast (Reg. No. 3051);on celebration of the 600th first written record anniversary of the village of Valiava of Kitsman region of Chernivtsi Oblast (Reg. No. 3052);
on celebration of the 160th birth anniversary of Mykola Kybalchych (Reg. No. 3074);
on celebration of the 120th discovery anniversary of Trypil culture (Reg. No. 3167).
Members of the Committee also considered a problem of banishment of museums from the territory of National Kyiv-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Preserve. Following the results of the discussion, the Committee adopted the decision to address the Minister of Culture of Ukraine L.Novokhatko and the Head of Kyiv City State Administration O.Popov requesting to provide comprehensive information regarding the threat of museums banishment from the territory of the preserve.
The Committee expressed its concern regarding the claim of the Head of the Department of Culture of Kyiv City State Administration S.Zorina regarding possible decrease in the number of libraries in Kyiv.
In connection with this, the Committee addressed the Head of Kyiv City State Administration O.Popov demanding explanations for the claim of the civil servant. The Committee also addressed the Minister of Culture L.Novokhatko requesting not to approve closing of any libraries.
