The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ihor Kalyetnik visited the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Taxation and Customs Policy.
After the meeting, in his comments to Opora NGO, I.Kalyetnik said that the main aim of participation of parliament leaders in the committees’ meetings is to raise the quality of law-making activity to a new level.
“The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada will participate in the committee’s meetings, the same as the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada - in the meetings of those committees which he coordinates, according to allocation of responsibilities. I will certainly participate in other meetings,” he said.
I.Kalyetnik said that as of today, meeting of the Committee on Taxation and Customs Policy “fully reflects the session hall of the Verkhovna Rada”.
“The things that happen in the session hall - happen in the committee. Unfortunately, I remember the sixth convocation of the Verkhovna Rada, where there was nothing like that. There were lots of different personalities in the Organized Crime Control and Anti-Corruption Committee but during the Committee’s meetings, instead of fighting for political slogans everyone was engaged in their professional activity,” noted I.Kalyetnik.
According to the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, the role of parliamentary leaders during the meetings is simple – “to feel the atmosphere of the committee’s meetings and let the people’s deputies realize that daily clashes, occurring in the Verkhovna Rada, should be transferred to the level of committees”. As a result, adoption of the bills in the session hall will be more consolidated, he noted.
