The people’s deputies of Ukraine Serhiy Hordiyenko (head of the union) and Vitaliy Barvinneko met with a number of officials of the region. Topical problems of Ukrainians residing in Transnistria were discussed during the meetings. It was noted that 100 thousands of Ukrainian citizens, requiring constant attention on the part of our state, live on the territory of this region.
The people’s deputies outlined the following problems of Ukrainian population of the region: obtaining necessary official information from central and regional authorities of Ukraine (re civil status, trade relations and pension provision, etc.), which is not provided at their request due to absence of diplomatic relations; organization of bus, railway, and air connection with Kyiv and Ukrainian Oblasts; increasing the number of border crossings; settlement of the issue of near-border cooperation and trade; and provision of all-round assistance to Ukrainian-language educational institutions in Transnistria.
Ukrainian deputies participated in the festivities dedicated to the 23d establishment anniversary of the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic at the invitation of the President of Transnistrian Moldovan Republic Yevhen Shevchuk.
