The bill on amendments to the Law “On Citizenship of Ukraine” (re the abolishing of the collision that would allow the double citizenship) (Reg. No. 0919) will be prepared for the second reading. The bill suggests establish the following grounds for the loss of citizenship of Ukraine: voluntary acquisition of the citizen of Ukraine the citizenship of another country; application or petition for citizenship of another country; documents testifying citizenship of another country.
The bill also contains a norm, according to which the decision to grant citizenship of Ukraine is canceled if a person gain citizenship of Ukraine fraudulently, by filing false information or falsified documents, concealment of any fact essential, whereby a person can not acquire citizenship of Ukraine.
The bill on amendments to several legislative acts re prevention and counter-action of discrimination in Ukraine (Reg. No. 2342) will be considered within the procedure of preparation for the first reading. The document, particularly, suggests determining that discrimination is a situation in which a person and/or a group of persons suffered, suffer or may suffer limitations in any form on the grounds of their race, color of skin, political, religious or other beliefs, sex, age, disability, ethnic or social origin, citizenship, marital and economic status, place of residence, linguistic or other characteristics that were, are and can be real or imaginary.
The bill also contains supplements to the authorities of the Human Rights Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, according to which the Commissioner will be entitled:
to appeal to the court with the claims of discrimination, aiming at protection of social interests, and personally or through a representative participate in the trial in the cases and in manner prescribed by the law;
to make recommendations to improve legislation on preventing and combating discrimination;
to provide conclusions in cases of discrimination on the request of the court.
The Committee also plans to conduct a number of parliamentary and committee’s hearings, round table discussions etc.
