Priorities of the union: issues of gender equality, increasing number of women in political parties and government, development of legislative initiatives on gender issues, active cooperation with public organization working in this sphere.
The IFU registered 6 bills in the Verkhovna Rada of current convocation, held the round table discussion entitles “Challenges and risks of restricting reproductive rights of women in Ukraine,” mounted a campaign in the National Botanic Garden on the occasion of the Mother’s Day.
The Union also met with the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office on Gender Issues June Zeitlin, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman, United States Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues Melanne Verveer, delegation of leaders of public opinion from Azerbaijan, heads of the OSCE and UNICEF in Ukraine, heads of the OSCE and UNICEF Missions in Ukraine. Union members regularly participate in events dedicated to the issue of gender equality.
The FIUs also cooperates with non-governmental organizations dealing with gender and social issues.
During the work of union, a range of initiatives were held.
On June 27, members of the Inter-Factional Union Oksana Prodan, Iryna Lutsenko and Tetiana Sliuz met with young leaders – this year’s winners of the programme “First Step to Success” conducted by Ukrainian Women Fund.
On July 10, Iryna Herashchenko and Olena Kondratiuk held the round table discussion in Vinnytsia.
In October 2013, the Union plans to hold parliamentary hearing in the Verkhovna Rada entitled “Equal rights and opportunities for women and men. Challenges and effective mechanisms of their solving.” The Union initiated parliamentary hearings by registering the relevant resolution in parliament (Reg. No. 2502). The last such hearing took place in the Ukrainian parliament seven years ago.
