State, problems and ways of developing outdoor advertising in Ukraine were discussed during the round table discussion in the Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information

The Committee Chairman Mykola Tomenko noted that “changes of current rules of game in the market of outdoor advertising in Ukraine are inevitable.” According to him, they “are caused by demands of society, and it is necessary to defer to our citizens.”

The Chairperson of the subcommittee on advertising Olena Kondratiuk drew attention of the participants to the fact that working places created in the sphere of advertising and the respective revenues to the budgets of all levels “clearly demonstrate the results of the advertising industry and are therefore extremely important for the state.” O.Kondratiuk also noted that the procedure of further improvement of legislation in the sphere of advertising “should be carried out by reaching compromise between society and business.”

The participants of the event analyzed the state of outdoor advertising in Ukraine, legislative perspectives in regulating outdoor advertising; got acquainted with international standards of regulation in the sphere of outdoor advertising and discussed issue of presence of impact of outdoor advertising on drivers and, respectively, on traffic safety.   

Following the discussion, it was stated that a further improvement of legislation in the field of advertising should provide a balance of interests "society-industry-government." According to the speakers, the adaptation of the best models and standards governing outdoor advertising operating in foreign countries to local realities and European experience in the field of road safety is also important.
