People’s deputies of Ukraine Borys Tarasyuk, Stepan Kurpil, Oleh Pankevych, Taras Kutovyi, Olena Netetska, Vitaliy Kalyuzhnyi, Vilen Shatvoryan and Serhiy Balandin participated in the work of the Third Session of the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly (EURONEST PA) that took place in Brussels on May 27-29, 2013.
The authorities of Borys Tarasyuk, as one of its co-presidents, were approved during the Assembly.
For three days, the Assembly has been working over the problems of regional and energy security, bringing legislation of its member states in line with the law of the European Union, and combating poverty. As a result of session’s work the respective resolutions with recommendations for EU member states and partner countries were adopted.
During the session, the Vice President of the European Parliament Jacek Protasiewicz mentioned problems topical for the countries of Eastern partnership. Particularly, once again the need to reform the system of justice and cease selective justice in Ukraine was mentioned.
European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule reminded European Council’s commitments in regard to Ukraine, particularly, to sign the Association Agreement with Ukraine. He stressed thereat that “one thing for our partners is to have ambitions and very high ambitions and absolutely different is to maintain implementation of these ambitions. The Summit can bring as many results as far our partners are ready to ensure holding of reforms”.
Stefan Fule called on the partner countries to strengthen democratic institutions and, in particular, parliamentary institutions: “without strong democratic institutions, independent from any political influence it would be impossible to fulfill the agenda of democratic transformations”.
The EURONEST PA co-president Borys Tarasyuk noted that “the European Union demonstrates a consistent stand: unless Ukraine fulfills the requirements made by the European Union in December last year that shall cease selective justice in Ukraine, the Association Agreement is unlikely to be signed”.
