The Committee on Judicial Policy declared the draft law on amendments to several laws of Ukraine re early local elections as corresponding to the Constitution of Ukraine

The bill (Reg. No. 2636) aimed at improving applicable legislation in the sphere of realization of electoral law of the citizens, guaranteeing local self-government, determining terms of early local elections of deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, local councils and village, township, city mayors.   

The bill suggests amendments to the Laws “On Elections of Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, local councils and village, township, city mayors” and “On Local Self-Government in Ukraine.”

According to the Main Law of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is the only legislative body in Ukraine, the adoption of the law is one of its authorities. People’s deputies deem the amendments to the mentioned laws correspond with the norms of the Constitution of Ukraine.
