The Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information recommends that the Parliament should adopt as a basis the bill on amendments to the Law “On Protection of Public Morality” (re state supervision)

The bill (Reg. No. 2142) suggests excluding the provision determining the status, authorities, activity basis and obligations of Ukraine's National Expert Commission for Protecting Public Morality.

It was noted that the necessity to elaborate the document was connected with the provisions of the Decree of the President of Ukraine “On optimization of the system of central bodies of executive power”, which entrusts the government “settle the issue of liquidation of Ukraine's National Expert Commission for Protecting Public Morality in the established order”.

The issue of beating the “5 channel” journalist Olha Snitsarchuk and the correspondent of the “Komersant Ukraina” Publishing House Vladyslav Sodel on May 18, 2013 was discussed during the meting of the Committee. 

Apart from this, the Committee took the decision to control the course of investigation of this case and to hear to the respective information during next meetings.
