The Committee on Environmental Policy, Use of Natural Resources and Chornobyl Aftermath Mitigation considered a number of environmental issues during a visiting session in the city of Yaremche of Ivano-Frankivsk region

In particular, the people’s deputies drew attention to the environmental problems of the industrial complex in the Ivano-Frankivsk region and the ways to solve them.
Representatives of central bodies of executive power, local bodies of executive power and bodies of local self-government of Ivano-Frankivsk region, directors of enterprises, scientists, NGO representatives participated in the work of the Committee.
First Deputy Chairman of the Committee Oleh Lukashuk noted that environmental situation in the Ivano-Frankivsk region is connected with extreme technogenic load; threat to health and even life of the citizens of the region; and the necessity to solve environmental problems that increasingly accumulate and are not always resolved.
It was stressed that Kalush region is one of the most technogenically loaded and environmentally unfavourable regions in Ukraine. Situation in several other districts of the region is also critical.
Dombrovskyi open-pit mine JSC "Oriana", LLC "Oriana-Halev"; Burshtyn thermal plant and several others are the main problems requiring immediate settlement.
It was noted that Burshtyn thermal plant is the major polluter of air in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
O.Lukashuk noted that “all branches of power and local self-government, directors of enterprises, scientists, publicity and citizens of the region understand the importance and criticality of the problem”. However, measures stipulated by a number of legislative acts are not always that environmentally efficient and are being slowly implemented. According to him, the law declaring the territory of Kalush and villages of Kropyvnyk and Sivka-Kaluska of Kalush district of Ivano-Frankivsk region the environmental emergency zone is practically not implemented. A number of measures in regard to other problematic enterprises are still to be taken.
Following the results of discussion, the decision was taken to generalize the suggested proposals that shall be considered during the meeting of the Committee.
