The Committee on Judicial Policy declared the draft law on amendments to the Law “On Elections of deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Autonomous Republic of Crimea, local councils, and village, township and city mayors (re several issues of organization of work of territorial election commissions)” as corresponding to the provisions of the Constitution of Ukraine

The bill (Reg. No. 2534) suggests empowering territorial election commissions after the election process to involve respective professionals, and technical workers for organizational, judicial, technical provision of exercising the authorities provided by the current law.   

It was mentioned by the Committee that the Main Law of Ukraine (article 72) fixes principles of free elections to the state power bodies and local self-government bodies, of general, equal and direct electoral law, guarantees free will of expression to the electorate.   

According to the Constitution of Ukraine (point 20, part I of the article 95), organization and procedure of elections is settles by the law. Considering that the Verkhovna Rada is the only legislative body in Ukraine, the Committee members deem the proposed amendments to the respective law correspond to the norm of the Constitution of Ukraine.
