Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, is surprised at the Stance of the Persons who initiated Scrutiny of the Bill on Access to the Public Information

Asked by Rada television channel, V.Lytvyn responded, "A strange situation is connected with this bill."

He reminded that People´s Deputies had demanded its scrutiny, hanging the slogans in the session hall. The Head of the Parliament claims that he suggested holding another meeting of the Freedom of Speech and Information Committee with the participation of the Ombudsperson to pass a corresponding resolution and bring the bill forward on Friday.

However, the bill was submitted for the parliamentary scrutiny only on 5 November. The Chairman received a letter of the Head of the specialized Committee with a request to postpone the scrutiny of the draft. "I am surprised at this situation. Moreover, I have thoroughly studied the text of the Law, and can not express any remarks," V.Lytvyn admitted.

"I do not understand these political games, when the initiators of the bill refuse its scrutiny," the Head of the Parliament stated. "As to the law-making body, it is working in an open mode."
