On Wednesday, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, delivered a speech at the parliamentary hearings "Young Generation supports the Healthy Lifestyle" dedicated to the state of youth in Ukraine. The Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine deems necessary to discuss not only a complicated situation in Ukraine with a healthy lifestyle, but also the ways to improve this situation, the priorities and strategies of the authorities, local officials, business and public organizations.
However, speaking on the strategy in this context, M. Tomenko suggested five priorities to encourage the young generation to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.
The first priority is the promotion of healthy, active and sporty way of life. The Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada emphasised, "Watching television, you can hardly find a program advocating grassroots sports and physical training on the example of a young person leading active and healthy lifestyle."
"The second priority is connected with the development and renovation of the physical training facilities ", M. Tomenko stated. "It is necessary to adopt a resolution that the building of expensive facilities for Euro 2012 is essential, but support of grassroots sports and recreation is a top priority", he emphasised.
The third priority concerns restriction and prevention of bad habits. M. Tomenko reminded that he initiated a ban on the advertising of alcoholic beverages and tobacco goods on the outdoor advertising facilities and on television.
The fourth priority is a healthy diet. The Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine reminded that Ukraine was the only state in Europe, where organic production has no legislative support.
"Finally, the fifth priority is the environmental protection", he stressed.
Summing up his speech, M.Tomenko called on the participants for the effective work, and announced that the exhibition of sports items was opened in the Parliament.
