The Committee on Culture and Spirituality recommends returning the Bill on Languages in Ukraine to the Subjects of Legislative Initiative without scrutinizing it at the Plenary Meeting

The Committee passed this resolution on 17 November.

 

The bill (Reg. No.1015-3) sets the order of language use in Ukraine, the fundamentals of the state language policy and its obligations as to the provision of the constitutional right for the free use of languages.

 

The explanatory note states that the bill "sets the general provisions, fundamentals of the state language policy, the status of different languages traditionally used in Ukraine with the compulsory use of the Ukrainian language as the state one, the use of Russian and other regional languages in public life."
