Mykola Tomenko: The Public and UN Office in Ukraine prohibited Illegal Use of UN Emblem by The Party of Regions in Cherkasy Region

Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine informed that he had received a response to his appeal to the UN Office in Ukraine regarding the use of their emblem in the election campaign of the Party of Regions.

 

Thus, on 26 October, Mykola Tomenko informed the UN Office in Ukraine that the Party of Regions in Cherkasy region was using their emblem in their election campaign. The Party placed the advertisement with the slogan to vote for the Party of Regions (No1) "Party which is building" with the UN official logo in the background on the big boards.

 

In response received from the UN System Coordinator, UN Office in Ukraine expressed worry about the illegal use of UN emblem, and appealed to the Cherkasy Regional Administration with the claim to dismantle these political advertisements, as illegal use of UN emblem is strictly forbidden. Mykola Tomenko also informed that the Cherkasy Regional Council agreed to dismantle the illegal advertising.

 

Mykola Tomenko appreciated the fact the common response of the public and the UN Office in Ukraine "stopped illegal actions of the Cherkasy authority and the Party of Regions." "However, it is unclear who holds responsibility for the numerous law infringements and formation of the negative image of Ukraine as the state that does not follow international obligations", he admitted.

 

M. Tomenko also announced that all the materials regarding the conflict in Cherkasy region would be referred to the President of Ukraine, as the Heads of the Regional Administrations are appointed and dismissed by the President of Ukraine.
