The conference is organized by the
Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement jointly with the Ministry
on Foreign Affairs, United Nations Development System in Ukraine, the Student Parliament and
the Scientific Association of Students and Post-Graduate Students of Kyiv T.Shevchenko National University.
Volodymyr Stretovych, Deputy Chairman of the Committee, opened the conference. In the welcoming speech, he attached great importance to the youth understanding the future of the country. "Each of you will represent some country or organization that is a UN member. Holding discussions, negotiations and debates, you will try to settle global issues. Defending your positions, you will learn to express your thoughts clearly and determinately, enrich your knowledge of the international law, history and culture, develop an understanding of global politics, improve your oratorical, diplomatic, cultural and communicative skills," the Deputy Chairman declared.
Vasyl Kostytskyi, Head of the National Expert Commission of Ukraine for the Protection of Public Morality, stated that Ukrainian laws, especially, the Law "On the Protection of Public Morality", in compliance with the Declaration of Human Rights and Clause 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, "guaranteed the freedom of creativity, entrepreneurship, information activity, personal privacy." "On the other hand, as the laws of the most states, they persecute propaganda of war, national and religious hostility, fascism and neo-fascism, violence, alcohol and drug addiction, smoking."
The Head of the National Expert Commission of Ukraine for the Protection of Public Morality believes that ethics of the future is the ethics of a global post-industrial information society, grounded on the trust to and respect for the person, human rights and freedoms.
UN Resident Coordinator Olivier Adam is satisfied with the fact that the International UN Model was growing not only in Ukraine, but also in the whole world, attracting more and more young people. "The models developed at the conference can be used to achieve the main goals of the United Nations protection of human rights, and social progress," O. Adam declared.
During the conference, the working groups will discuss the following issues: non-proliferation of nuclear weapon; climate changes as the source of conflicts; international legal tools for protecting the children from trafficking in humans; child pornography and sexual harassment; diversity of the cultural self-expression forms and cultural dialogue for peace consolidation.
